A carer is someone who, without any payment, provides help and support to a family member or friend who might not be able to manage without this help due to illness, frailty or disability. If you look after or care for someone whois unable to look after themselves thecarers’ co-ordinator may be able to help you. The Northern Trust aims to value and recognise ‘informal’ carers and employs a carers’ co-ordinator to provide support for carers. The Carers and Direct Payments Act 2002 has brought new rights for carers. The law gives carers the right to an assessment of their needs, whether or not the person they care for is being assessed. The Trust provides carer assessments. The carers’ co-ordinator covers all areas within the Northern Trust: - Antrim, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Carrickfergus, Coleraine, Cookstown, Larne, Magherafelt, Moyle and Newtownabbey Carers' Co-ordinator The Trust has a Carers' Co-ordinator who can help carers by: • Providing information advice and resources for carers • To provide information and to support carers in the Northern Trust area • To promote training to enpower and support carers • To gather information about the needs of carers

This is a designated website for carers where you can download resources, guides and the ‘Jointly’ app for free using the access code. There is also e-learning, nutritional advice and other sources of information.
