What the service does

The Northern Ireland mental health service for deaf people is a specialist mental health service for people aged 18 and older who are profoundly deaf.

Our team offers medical, nursing and psychological assessment and intervention where appropriate. We also aim to improve access to mental health services in your local area.

Our level of involvement will be based on an individual needs assessment.

Services are provided through sign language (British and Irish) and/or with interpreters.

Clinics are provided in regional centres or through home visits as appropriate.

There are other, non-statutory service providers for deaf people. If a mental health issue arises, we can offer consultation and advice, and help provide access to the appropriate service.

Please note: We are unable to respond to requests for involvement where safety plans or risk management is the current priority. We will provide specialist guidance on matters related to deafness and mental health.
