Additional Information

This service aims to help men who have either become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless as a direct result of the abuse that they may have suffered.

The Men’s Advisory Project (MAP) is a specialist charity supporting male victims of domestic abuse across Northern Ireland.

We offer services of support, confidential 1-2-1 counselling, referral, risk and safety assessing and planning, access and education around criminal and civil justice measures and group therapeutic programmes of support.

We understand that domestic abuse is not just faced by intimate partners but also within families. Therefore, we support sons, fathers and grandfathers who are also abused by other family members. It is also experienced across all relationships in the population. Those who are older or who have additional vulnerabilities particularly are often overlooked.

There are no dedicated Refuge spaces for male victims of domestic abuse or their children in N.I. This lack of provision means that many men remain longer in their homes with their abusers or begin cycles of behaviour to cope which can result in their being unable to maintain their tenancies or indeed becoming Homeless and cycling back into Homelessness.

The Men's Advisory Project (MAP) have been funded via Housing Executive Ending Homelessness Strategy to provide a dedicated worker to support men (aged 18 and over) who have faced domestic abuse and who may, as a result, have additional needs. This may mean they are facing difficulties in coping generally, their mental health may have been severely impacted or they may be suffering from unhelpful behaviours or coping mechanisms or in functioning - regarding budgeting or in housing upkeep.

If you are worried about a man you support or need further help, please call The Mens Advisory Project today, for confidential support and information :-
