Southern Trust Recovery College Mental health and wellness is recognised as an important and essential component of health and is fundamental to the ability to live and enjoy life. Unfortunately 1:5 people in Northern Ireland will experience some form of mental health problem in their lifetime.

Recovery can be a voyage of self-discovery and personal growth, which does not impose limits on people. Experiences of mental illness can provide opportunities for change, reflection and discovery of new values, skills and interests.

The Southern Trust Recovery College works to empower those with experience of mental health problems to realise their potential and foster hope, opportunity and control. We aim to provide an opportunity that is free from stigma, is strengths based and focused on the person and not the illness.

The College also welcomes anyone with an interest in developing awareness of mental health and wellbeing. We support this by:

• Designing educational programmes based on the needs of the SHSCT population

• Delivering educational programmes in an accessible way ensuring that they are available across the Southern area

• Working closely with those with lived experience of mental health problems and those with learned experience (health care professionals and those from community/voluntary sector) to co-design and co-deliver Recovery College educational programmes on equal terms

All courses are open to those with:

• Lived experience of mental health problems

• Family members

• Carers

• Health care staff

• Community/Voluntary sector

• Anyone aged 16+ with an interest in learning more about mental health and wellness Participants on the courses are known as ‘students’ and are free to everyone. We encourage potential students to self-enrol but can help you in that process should you wish to have support.
