Additional Information

The Trust's Bereavement Coordinator works with healthcare staff to promote bereavement care standards and training. The Regional HSC “When someone dies – information, guidance and support for family and friends” booklet (attached at Useful Documents) contains information on the practical matters that relatives have to deal with following a death, advice on living and coping with bereavement and a list of relevant support agencies.

The bereavement coordinator does not provide counselling but will signpost people who contact her to appropriate information, resources and support services The Southern Trust holds a number of special services throughout the year to remember babies, children, patients and staff who have died. The dates for these services, which usually take place in May and November, will be posted on the Trust website and are published in the local press and church bulletins.

Books of Remembrance for babies and children are available in both Craigavon Area and Daisy Hill Hospitals. Many parents and family members choose to write some words in memory of their child which is then included in the book and there is no time limit for the inclusion of information. The books of Remembrance are on display in the Quiet Rooms in Craigavon Area Hospital and Daisy Hill Hospital.
