Dietitians are Allied Health Professionals registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. They assess, diagnosis and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public-health level. They work with children and adults in a variety of settings. Dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease which they translate into practical advice to help people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

What do we do? The Nutrition and Dietetics Service is delivered Trust wide. Staff work in clinical teams and as members of multi-disciplinary teams to treat complex clinical conditions such as:

  • Malnutrition Diabetes Kidney Disease
  • Food Allergy and Intolerance
  • Stroke
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Gastroenterology – Inflammatory Bowel Disease,
  • Coeliac Disease,
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome,
  • Liver Disease
  • Faltering growth in children Health and Wellbeing

Dietitians work with a number of partner organisations to deliver training on nutrition skills programmes and provide a source of nutrition expertise to community, voluntary and statutory organisations throughout the South Eastern Trust area. Dietitians provide advice to caterers to ensure good nutrition within Health and Social Care settings.
