Beat supports families and friends caring for loved ones affected by eating disorders, equipping them with essential skills and advice, so they can help them recover whilst also looking after their own mental health. We offer a free and confidential helpline, available 365 days a year, as well as support via one to one webchat and email. We also offer online peer support groups and carers skills workshops, all of which are free. Our carer programmes in Northern Ireland include:

Nexus: A telephone based coaching service where the carer works through Prof. Janet Treasure’s book “Skills-based Learning for Caring for a Loved One with an Eating Disorder: The New Maudsley Method” with the support of a trained adviser

Raising Resilience: A series of interactive Zoom workshops suitable for carers of people who have had their eating disorder for less than 5 years, with an emphasis on self-care for carers

Developing Dolphins: A set of workshops based on the principles of the New Maudsley Method, focused on increasing understanding of eating disorders and developing strategies to aid recovery along with an element of peer support

POD (Peer Online Development): Support, Learn & Engage. POD (Peer support and Online Development) is Beat's online carer community designed to provide people supporting someone with an eating disorder with a space to learn, share experiences and find support.
