Additional Information

The Recovery College offers everyone including those who have lived experience, carers, staff, volunteers and members of the general public the opportunity to learn from each other and to develop skills to manage their own recovery journey or to begin a new one. Northern Region Recovery College is for the community, based in the community. Local volunteer, leisure and communal facilities are used to teach not treat. Our philosophy being to deliver an educational rather than therapeutic approach, where we focus on strengths, talents and resources to help explore possibilities and develop skills in order to assist you in achieving your goals and ambitions. Everyone has challenges, everyone can learn. Our courses provide the opportunities to encourage individual recovery, wellness, empowerment, progress and life-long learning. Routed in Recovery Recovery means something different to everyone. Here, at The College, we mean having the ability to live a satisfying life. Whether or not you have continuing difficulties with your mental health or you care for someone who has, together we can identify and maintain routes to recovery. Four of the signposts identified by people with lived experience are hope, opportunity, power and education. Hope – Is central to recovery and some would say that without hope recovery is impossible. We base some of our courses around principle of hope. Opportunity – Refers to all individuals having the same life chances. The courses we offer in this section are designed to enable you to maximise opportunities to understand and tell your own recovery story. Power – Individuals have the power within themselves to take control of their own difficulties, services and lives. By understanding what has happened to you, what you need to achieve your own recovery. Our prospectus contains various topics of interest that can help you focus on self-management, choice and responsibility – more insight to help fuel your personal journey. Education – In this context, has best been summed up by a former student of The Northern Region college. “Education is learning about you as a person, putting yourself in the centre of your world. Education is about looking after yourself, looking at your strengths, what is within you and drawing on resources when you are challenged.” We provide resources to help you meet such challenges – to learn, maintain and control. In doing so enabling you to understand and tell your own recovery story. See attached website link above. To keep up to date with all the latest information, follow us on Facebook, (see link above) Please see our timetable at website link for online courses which will be delivered via Zoom.
