Home Safety Visit Unintentional home accidents are a leading cause of death and serious injury for children in Northern Ireland, with approximately 17,000 people, including many young children, admitted to hospital annually. Key hazards such as falls, burns/scalds, poisonings, choking, and suffocation account for 90% of emergency admissions.

Belfast City Council (BCC) delivers a home safety service funded by the Public Health Agency aimed at reducing accidents in the home with a specific focus on children under 5 years of age. Currently the referrals for a home safety check are received from Health Professionals such as Health Visiting team leads, social workers and Sure Start staff.

A room-by-room inspection usually takes around 45 minutes and our officers can:

  •  show you the potential risk areas in your home
  • provide safety equipment for the home and information leaflets and advice
  • refer you for a free smoke alarm installation if required
  • advise on toy safety and other key safety messages such as blind cord and button battery dangers

The service is available to all residents in the Belfast City Council area with a child under 5 years of age.

Bryson Pathways offer a Home Safety Service for anyone living in the Belfast City Council area who is over 65 years of age. Please contact : handyman@brysonpathways.org or 0800 14 22 865
