FabLab (fabrication laboratory) is a fully kitted fabrication workshop which gives everyone in the community from small children through to entrepreneurs and businesses, the capability to turn their ideas and concepts into reality. Using Open Source software and a selection of computer controlled machines, users can design and make almost anything. Fab Labs were born from an outreach project by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in inner-city Boston in 2005. Since then FabLabs have quickly spread around the world. There are over 400 FabLabs from the inner cities of the USA to the villages of Africa. FabLab runs programmes suitable for everyone whether you are new to using a computer or enjoy designing and making there is something for you! We have weekly open access days of the public to learn how to use FabLab, meet other makers and use the FabLab facilitates engaging hands on fun group experiences to introduce digital fabrication and get people designing, creating, making and problem solving together. FabLab is fully accessible and can cater for users with a range of abilities.
