Self Harm Intervention Programme (SHIP) is a service offered by qualified counsellors that helps young people who self-harm to deal with the issues that are causing distress. It teaches young people new ways of coping with problems. It is for young people who self- harm aged 11-18 years and their families.
Before you are referred to SHIP you will be assessed to make sure this is the right service for you.
SHIP is provided at a place which is close to where you live and is easy for you to attend. If you are interested in this programme you should seek referral for assessment with CAMHS (this can be done via your GP) If you wish to attend SHIP, CAMHS will pass your information to SHIP and SHIP will contact you within 48 hours. You will usually be offered an appointment within one week. Your parents/carers can attend with you. If you don’t want counselling, your parent/carer/friend can still get support from SHIP. SHIP will not share any of your personal information, but will give your parents/carer advice on how they can cope better themselves. Your parents/carers will usually be offered an appointment within 2 weeks.
Families or carers who would like to arrange an appointment should contact SHIP in the area in which they live.
