Drink Wise, Age Well aims to help people make healthier choices about their drinking For many people alcohol can have a positive impact on their lives including increasing socialisation and relaxation. Many of us will enjoy alcohol as we get older and not experience many of the negative effects. We are living longer, and many of us will have active and independent lives well into old age. Research suggests that after the age of 50, people start getting progressively happier. However for some people as they get older alcohol can start to have a more negative affect. In the past ten years we have seen a significant increase in harms caused by alcohol to older people What we do Drink Wise Age Well provides information on alcohol and getting older to allow you to make informed choices about alcohol use. We provide information on alcohol unit guidelines, tips for cutting down and where and how to get help if you need it Drink Wise Age Well also supports health and social care providers and community organisations to recognise and respond to risky drinking in people aged over 50. Helping people in the Western Trust area make healthier choices about alcohol as we age. If you live in the Western Trust Health and Social Care area and are over 50 we can offer: Free, confidential support and advice for you, your family or anyone concerned about how alcohol is affecting them Advice and support in your community, including visits in your home Free local actvities and social opportunities to meet new people, or develop skills Free training on starting the conversation, recognising and responding and alcohol’s impact as we age. Free alcohol awareness sessions for local organisations and employers.
