Contraception Service
The Contraception Service is delivered by a Team of Specialist Practitioners and provides free impartial confidential contraception to anyone using our service offering the following:
- Barrier methods, including male and female condoms.
- Oral contraceptive pills.
- Contraceptive implant.
- Contraceptive injection.
- Intrauterine devices (IUS/CIUD)
- Emergency contraception (Morning after pill/ Copper Coil)
- Advice on Sexual Health
- Priority access (for those patients deemed high risk)
- SH24: offers free contraceptive and emergency contraception pills as well as sexual health testing for anyone 16+ online via www.sh24.org.uk / www.sh24.ie
- Pharmacy First: The service ensures that women and young people aged 13 years and over have timely access to sexual health advice and free EHC (including the provision of bridging contraception) when clinically indicated. Participating pharmacies are shown on this map. (at hscni.net)
- Period Dignity: if you are struggling with increased/ prolonged/ heavy bleeding as a result of your contraception, you can access period products and support via the Contraception Service

GUM (Genito Urinary Medicine)
The GUM (Genito Urinary Medicine) Service provides free sexual health advice, testing and treatment for genital infections and other sexually transmitted infections.
Clinics are held in
- John Mitchel Place, Newry – Monday all day and Wednesday morning
- Portadown Health Centre – Tuesday and Thursday
- Thorndale Unit, Craigavon Area Hospital – Friday morning

What tests are available?
We offer testing, advice and treatment for infections including:
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhoea
- Herpes
- Genital Warts
- Syphilis
- HIV
- Hepatitis
Many people attend the clinic with conditions which are not sexually transmitted, such as thrush, bacterial vaginosis and other genital skin conditions.
We also provide:
- Vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B
- Pregnancy testing
- Emergency Hormonal Contraception
- Free condoms to clinic patients
- Access to Post Exposure Prophylaxis following sexual exposure to HIV (PEPSE).
