Additional Information
Western Home Environmental Project (WHEAP) is a 5 year project which aims to reduce home accidents, fuel poverty and fear of crime as well as to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing for residents in the Community
Home Assessment Officers will visit homes and carry out assessments on issues around home safety, security and energy efficiency.
Safety and Security equipment may be supplied to homes visited and assessed.
In addition the Home Assessment Officers will be able to carry out benefit checks to assist residents to maximise their income, helping to combat fuel poverty.
The Officers will also be able to link residents to a range of services available in their local communities which will improve the health and well being of those who avail of the assessment.
The WHEAP scheme came into operation on 1st November 2009 and was still running in August 2018.
WHEAP will be delivered through a partnership of the Councils in the West and a range of other statutory, community and voluntary agencies.
Families with children under 5 years (whose parent(s) are in receipt of benefits) and residents over 65 years who wish to avail of the service can register with the Environmental Health Department for an assessment.
