Help Kids Talk is a cross sectoral partnership project led by Early Intervention Lisburn (a locality planning group chaired by Resurgam Community Development Trust), SEHSCT, BarnardosNI and funded by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
Help Kids Talk aims to prioritise early intervention and ensure everyone who has any responsibility for a child prioritises speech, language and communication development including parents/caregivers, extended family members and whole children’s sector.
Help Kids Talk package is comprised of:
- Universal (available across NI):
- 12 key messages: delivered monthly as guidance for parents and practitioners.
- Basic Awareness Training (free, run monthly online): for everyone who has any responsibility for a child. We share top tips for supporting speech, language and communication skills in everyday activities and routines. Our 12 key messages are linked with KCA five-to-thrive building blocks to highlight the connection between infant mental health, brain development and communication development.
- Level 1 Training (free, run monthly online): explores speech, language and communication developmental milestones. Activities and strategies to support children at different ages and stages. Level 1 training manual also available.
- Bitesize sessions: provide information on specific topics around speech, language and communication including; key facts, dispelling myths and sharing top tips for supporting a child. Dummy Bitesize available on website now, others in development
Targeted (available in Lisburn and some areas in Belfast L/Derry and Newtownabbey:
- Investment and training in evidence-based programmes Early Talk Boost and Talkboost from Speech and Language UK for educational settings.
