Additional Information

The Behaviour Support Service provides specialist behavioural assessment, advice and support intervention to both children and adults who have a severe learning disability and whose names are on the informal register. The service is based on the priciples of Applied Behaviour Analysis, a scientific approach for discovering environmental variables that reliably influence socially significant behaviour and for developing a technology of behaviour changes that takes practical advantage of those discoveries. Ordinarily the intervention will be time limited with ongoing personal support provided for a pre-determined period only. The Behaviour Support Service supports children and adults with a learning disability who have severe challenging behaviours. Where possible we assist people with a learning disability and challenging behaviours to continue to live their lives in their own homes and in their own communities. This is done by :- Offering support and advice to carers on behaviour management. Assessing why the individual behaves the way they do Developing individual support plans. Offering practical support to carers working on agreed programmes for the management of difficult behaviour. Liaising with other health and social care and outside professionals to support carers in the management of behaviours
