Working with people from ethnic minority backgrounds and residents of the Harbour Ward The Harbour Renewal Project seeks to tackle disadvantage and build community within the Harbour Ward area of Bangor. The project aims to improve social conditions for people living in the Harbour, improve their quality of life and connect them with the wider economy. Current activities include: Advice and information available for residents of all ages on priority issues, such as health, community resources and training and employment. Numeracy and Literacy classes, facilitated by tutors from South Eastern Regional College (crèche provided). Community drop-in for Harbour Ward residents of all ages (crèche provided). Senior Citizens’ Friendship Group for local residents aged 55 plus, with including social activities and outings. Drop-in crèche for children aged 0 to 3 years old, facilitated by Sure Start. Advice, information and integration support available for minority ethnic communities, including advice and interpretation. English language classes, at both beginner and advanced levels, for migrant workers. International Homework Club for migrant children attending local primary schools. Migrant Youth Club for migrant young people aged 11+, including outings and activities. A meeting point and resource base for the Harbour Ward Community Association and the Polish Association of County Down.
