Additional Information

Since its establishment in 1990, Windsor Womens Centre has been committed to providing vital services for the diverse needs of women within the local community. Situated in the Village area of South Belfast, the centre currently has 23 staff working with a management committee of 18 people, 15 of whom are women from the community itself. Within an area of major social and economic deprivation, the needs of the local community include provisions for education, training, childcare, advice and information capacity building, developing confidence and addressing issues of health and the environment. As the only Womens Centre in South Belfast, the organisation works closely with the Womens Support Network and has been involved with many other womens groups across Northern Ireland in bringing the sector together in agreement towards a comprehensible structure of Greater Belfast, Rural and Northeast. Together with the voluntary and community sectors, the centre also endeavours to bring services to the area that are capable of supporting the women in the community towards building a better life for themselves and their families. Through these various programmes and services, the centre contributes significantly to community cohesion and social inclusion, in empowering women to become proactive and vocal members of the community. Through this project we provide a confidential counselling service. What is Counselling? All of us have to deal with difficult experiences at various times in our lives, they might be emotional, physical, psychological or social. Talking things through with a counsellor can really help. Counselling provides an opportunity for you to think and talk in confidence about any personal or emotional difficulties that may be concerning you. It is time and space to examine, clarify and understand your concerns, and explore and develop more effective ways of dealing with them. The role of the counsellor is to provide support and help in this process of exploration, understanding and change. Some Common Issues Counsellors work with a variety of difficulties and issues including: personal relationships, loneliness, anxiety, depression, suicidal feelings, family problems, sex and sexuality, cultural issues, trauma, life changes, bereavement and loss, eating difficulties, drug or alcohol problems, life crises, mental health issues and experiences of abuse. How Do I Arrange An Appointment? To arrange an appointment contact Eleanor or Martina. Confidentiality The content of sessions is confidential. Counsellors are required by their professional body (BACP) to keep a brief record of counselling sessions. This record is also confidential.
