Additional Information

The centre and its services are available for service users who live within the South Eastern HSC Trust locality and offers opportunities to engage in social activities/educational courses as part of the recovery journey. Members will be supported and empowered to access new roles, relationships and social support. The South Eastern HSC Trust runs a variety of social activities and provides educational training courses which are delivered by trained professionals and volunteers. We also facilitate our own personal development courses; alongside facilitating Recovery College courses and also courses from external organizations. The Derriaghy Social & Educational Centre opened in 1991 as a ‘traditional’ Day Care Centre. Over the years the type of service available has been transformed many times, through a cooperative venture of service users and service providers. Currently to reflect the changing ethos of service, we are a Centre where service users can engage in a “recovery” pathway by taking part in educational and social opportunities (i.e. training or opportunities to provide training, both within the Centre and referrals to appropriate venues within the community as well as social experiences to enhance interpersonal skills). This service mirrors the South Eastern Trust’s emphasis on recovery through partnership with both IMROC and the Recovery College. About us: We offer a friendly social and educational environment in which member involvement is maximised by ensuring that all individuals are given sufficient information to enable them to make an informed choice about attendance and participation. Members and staff work together to run the Centre on a day to day basis and decisions are made jointly. Referral and Induction Process All referrals to Derriaghy Social and Educational Centre must be made through a mental health professional. Your Journey at the centre begins with: A First Visit This gives you the chance to be introduced to staff and volunteers while being shown around the centre. You will also be a given an information pack which gives further details on the centre, (audio information will be available within the near future). Access Meeting This will take place prior to the start of your regular attendance. This will involve you and a member staff from the centre. It will include completion of referral forms, some background information about you, travel arrangements, activities offered, days of attendance, what supports we can offer you and the use of the appointments book.
