Northern Ireland Children's Hospice provides planned and emergency respite, nursing care, and social and emotional support for children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions and their families.
Horizon House is our Children’s In-Patient Unit and the only service of its kind in Northern Ireland. We care for children of all ages, from babies to teenagers, who have life-limiting conditions or who require support at the end of their lives.
Care is provided both in Horizon House and in the community. Horizon House is a specialised 10 bed facility, complete with 6 family rooms.
Community support includes care and support to children, young people and their families as well as professional advice to others working with this group of children and young people. The Hospice at Home service provides care from qualified staff in the child's own home for planned respite as well as end of life care. Saturday Day Care provides opportunities for social and emotional support within local communities whilst the child's clinical needs are being met.
NI Children's Hospice provides a number of therapies for families both in Horizon House and in the community. These can include complementary therapy, music therapy and pet therapy.
Support is also provided for siblings and other family members.
A key aspect of the care given to families is bereavement support, both pre and post bereavement. Bereavement support is offered to the whole family and can involve 1 to 1 sessions or support groups.
