The team at Evergreen Wood want each and every day to be a fun and rewarding experience for the children in our care. Their time with us should help to foster a lifelong love of learning, and by the end of their pre-school year they should be moving up to P1 filled with confidence to take on any challenge they meet. We do this through daily adventures into all sorts of fun themes from the passing of the seasons, meeting people who help us, diving deep under the sea, and rocketing out to the final frontier. WHERE TO FIND US 🗺️  

We’ve been providing a pre-school service in the rural village of Greyabbey in various forms for several years. Our service includes children and families from villages the length and breadth of the Ards Peninsula from Newtownards to Portaferry. We are based in the community run Village Hall in Greyabbey on the A20 main road that runs along Strangford Lough just 10 minutes from Newtownards. This makes us ideally placed for parents and carers leaving children to playschool on their way to work or elsewhere during our morning sessions. The hall has lots of space, kitchen facilities for snack time and also benefits from large green spaces and a secure tennis court for outdoor play.  

JOINING PLAYSCHOOL 📝  

Playschool is available for children in their year before school and earlier. The government offers free pre-school places for children in their year before Primary 1 and you apply for these via a government gateway that’s available each January. We sometimes have space available if all of our allocated spaces haven’t been filled or perhaps a family has moved to a different area so if you are seeking a place it’s worth getting in touch. If you’ve missed the January gateway you can sign up for a paid place with us and remember you can get help with costs via Government tax breaks, and Universal Credit if you qualify which can pay up to 85% of your childcare costs. For younger children from 2 years 10 months and up we offer paid places and the details are on our website. This can be a cost effective way of providing a family with childcare support as well as a stimulating educational experience they may not get in regular daycare even if you are mixing and matching a few mornings with us and a day or afternoons with a daycare facility.
