Access to Rapid COVID-19 Testing for Family Support and Childcare Providers

As schools return and restrictions have eased many childcare businesses have introduced additional COVID safety measures to provide reassurance to those using and working within these services.

The Department of Health is encouraging all family support and child care providers to register their interest for Rapid COVID-19 testing.

Rapid COVID-19 tests, using lateral flow devices (LFD tests) are currently available free of charge to any business wishing to implement a workforce testing scheme.

Tests are quick to undertake and offer results in 30 minutes.

Workforce Rapid Testing offers a range of benefits:

• Early identification of asymptomatic cases – around one in three people infected with COVID-19 show no symptoms of illness

• Reducing the likelihood of closures, or reduction of service capacity, due to staff illness

• Increased confidence among staff especially when cases are perceived as common in the community

• Increased confidence among parents or guardians of children attending your childcare setting

• Implementing Rapid testing demonstrates your commitment to a cautious best-practice approach to COVID-19 risks

How to apply?

Any employer wishing to introduce workforce testing can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)  or find out more here.

Following receipt of an EOI, you will be contacted by the Department of Health with advice on the testing models available to your organisation, and how to progress your application.

Any queries/questions?

If you have any questions or queries about the programme in advance of submitting your Expression of Interest Form, please send an email to asymptomatic.testing@health-ni.gov.uk and a member of staff will be happy to deal with your query.
