The Families and Money Matters (FAMM) project delivers debt and money management advice to families of people in prison and those on probation. It supports families who are not engaging with mainstream debt advice services and who have a relative who has either recently entered custody or is nearing their release date.
The project also aims to research and evaluate the reasons why people do not engage with mainstream debt support services.
This project is funded by the Money Advice Service (MAS).
How can I access this service?
The project identifies families who may benefit from the offer of support through internal referrals from the suite of NIACRO services, as well as through other referral pathways from the Northern Ireland Prison Service and the Probation Board for Northern Ireland.
FAMM obtains contact details and consent from those in custody in order to make contact with their families in the community; the project seeks to make contact with that family within 24 hours of NIACRO being informed of the consent given.
