Extern’s SAFE Together project has been supporting individuals and families who have been bereaved by suicide across the Greater Shankill since 2006. We know from our experience that people need different supports at different times.
Losing someone you love and care about to suicide can be life changing. It can lead to the bereaved person feeling the need to isolate themselves from friends, family and the wider community and they are sadly at a higher risk of attempting suicide themselves.
By listening to families bereaved by suicide the SAFE family have developed and delivered a range of services to support bereavement recovery
We offer
We also support the local community in raising awareness through events, training and initiatives which promotes positive mental health and wellbeing and suicide prevention
Our members also have the opportunity to volunteer for the project
Asking and getting help at the right time and getting involved with the project is important in helping to address the stigma, preventing suicide and improving our mental health.
