Main Services Provided

Brain Injury Matters has three main areas of support – The Family First Service, The Younger Persons Network and The Adult Wellbeing Programme.

(1) Family Support Service – This regional service is a designed to empower families to support children aged 0-12 years old who have sustained an acquired brain injury. The programme works with the whole family unit to enable everyone to better manage the impact of ABI in daily life. This service is delivered in partnership with the Department of Psychological Services at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

(2) The Younger Person’s Network is a FREE personal development programme which combines physical, emotional and practical support for young people with a brain injury aged 16-20. The first programme of its kind in Northern Ireland and indeed the UK, the programme will provide specialist support services to improve the lives, opportunities and confidence of young people aged 16-20 living with an acquired brain injury at this particularly challenging time in their lives.

(3) The Wellbeing Programme offers specialist support including Neuro-Physiotherapy, tailored exercise programmes, art workshops, drama sessions, music therapy and other activities, such as Tai Chi, to sustain a good quality of life after rehabilitation.

(4) A flexible programme of support helps promote recovery, maintain functional gains and develop new skills. The programme is organised by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers and allows individuals to express themselves in a safe and welcoming environment.
